Excuses feel like protection. To everyone else, they look like a pattern.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Each excuse feels like a single explanation, because you are only ever making one at a time. The person listening is holding all of them at once: the traffic, the charger, the group that let you down. Individually they were probably all true. Together they stop being reasons and start being a description of you.

For one week, try saying what happened without the reason attached. Just the fact, then what you are doing about it. If that feels hard, the number of explanations you were leaning on is the thing worth looking at.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which explanation have you given so often it now sounds rehearsed?
