A consequence does not need anger behind it to still be a consequence.

A consequence is not a punishment, and it does not require anyone to be angry with you. If a friendship fades after months of no contact, if trust thins after repeated lateness, that is not retaliation, it is arithmetic. Reading it as hostility means you argue with the feeling instead of noticing the mechanism.
When something falls away, ask what maintained it and whether you were doing that. Where the answer is no, the repair is not an apology for someone’s mood. It is resuming the thing that kept it alive.
Where could you hold a line calmly instead of not at all?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
