The coach who tells you the truth about your game is taking a risk too. Thank them before you argue.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
Honest feedback costs the person giving it. Saying nothing is easier, keeps the room pleasant and protects them from being the one who upset you, which is why most people choose it and why so much polite praise is useless. Being told the real shape of your game is a sign somebody decided you were worth the discomfort. Argument is the normal first reflex and it closes the channel fast.
Say thank you before anything else, then ask one question to make the note more specific. Save disagreement for a day later, if you still want it.
Who told you a hard truth and got defensiveness back?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
