When a younger kid is getting picked on at the bus stop, a calm “come stand with me” can be all the rescue they need.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Being picked on is partly what gets said and mostly being alone while it is said. Someone standing beside you changes that arithmetic without any confrontation happening at all. You do not have to out-argue anybody or be bigger than anybody. You only have to stop a kid from being outnumbered.

If you see it this week, you can offer the space next to you and talk about something ordinary until the bus comes. Keep it low-key rather than heroic. Later, away from the stop, tell an adult what you saw.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Is there a smaller kid near you who needs company?
