A rookie lifeguard’s first real save is terrifying. The training is what moves while the brain catches up.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
Under real pressure you do not rise to the moment, you drop to whatever you practised. That is not a shortage of courage; it is how bodies are built. Training is the thing you install in advance so there is something to run when thinking goes offline. The fear is still present, it just arrives behind the action instead of in front of it.
Take whatever you want to be steady at and drill only its first ten seconds. The entrance, the opening line, the first move. Repeat that part until it needs no decision.
What have you trained for that would carry you through panic?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
