Learning to canter feels like losing control. Then it feels like flying. You only get to the second part through the first.

RESILIENCE
New speed always feels like losing control first, because your body has no reference for it yet and reports everything as alarm. The good part sits on the far side of that, and there is no route to it that skips the uncomfortable stage. Most people quit in the middle and conclude the thing was not for them. What they actually met was the ordinary first phase of learning it.
When something new feels out of control, give it a fixed number of sessions before you judge. Five or six. Decide that now, while you can still think about it calmly.
