Taking your sketchbook out in public is a tiny act of courage. Artists start there.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
Drawing where people can see means your unfinished attempts are visible, and unfinished work invites glances you cannot control. That is a small exposure, and it is the same one every artist begins with. Keeping the book shut protects the work from being seen badly and also keeps it from being practised in the places most worth drawing. The street has better subjects than your room does.
Take it out once this week somewhere ordinary, a bus stop or a cafe, and draw for ten minutes. Choose a bad seat on purpose and let people walk past.
Where could you work on something of yours in public?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
