Capability is not something you verify in advance, including for the people who turn out to be good at it. Talent gets discovered in the middle of doing the thing, usually by somebody who signed up with no evidence at all. Waiting for a sign means waiting for information that only the attempt can produce. The signing up is the test, not the reward for having passed one.
Put your name down for something you have no proof you will be good at. Commit to a season or a term, so that one bad week does not end it.
