Preparing forever and never attempting leaves all that work sitting unused, which is quietly the more common mistake, because it feels responsible while you are doing it. Both halves have to be present for either one to count.
Work out which half you overdo. If you prepare, set a date and go before you feel ready. If you leap, spend two hours preparing first and be specific about what you are checking.
