A horse that’s never been asked to cross water often won’t do it on the first try. Neither will you. Ask again tomorrow.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

A refusal on the first attempt is not a verdict on the whole thing, it is a reaction to novelty. Nothing has had time to learn that the ground on the other side holds. The same is true of you, which is why one failed attempt tells you less than it feels like it does.

Pick the thing you tried once and backed away from, and go at it again this week without raising the stakes. Keep the attempts short and close together rather than big and rare. Count the asking as the work, and let the crossing arrive when it arrives.
