Speaking up when a teammate is being hazed costs you popularity. Staying silent costs you something worse.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Hazing survives on the idea that going along with it is what makes you part of the group. Objecting marks you out, and that is a real price, paid in how people treat you. The other price is quieter and lasts longer: being someone who watched and decided it was not worth the trouble. You carry that one on your own, with no group to share it.

You do not have to confront a room. Tell a coach, a parent or a teacher, and if you would rather not be named, say so. Check on the person later, because being left alone with it is often the worst part.
