Your first film will be bad. Your fifth will be less bad. That’s the whole plan.

Getting better is not a mystery, it is a count. A first attempt is bad because you have never done it, and the fifth is better because you now have four sets of mistakes you can recognize on sight. You keep arriving at the same problems earlier, which is what skill feels like from the inside.
Decide how many you want to have made by the end of the year, then make the next one small enough that the count can move. Two minutes is a film. Keep the bad ones, because in a year they are your only proof of how far you came.
Are you willing to make four bad ones first?
