Nobody else can write the thing only you noticed. That’s the whole job.

Most of what gets made is a version of something already made, which is why genuine first-hand noticing stands out. You have seen things nobody has written down: how your street sounds at five in the morning, what your coach does with his hands when he is disappointed. Those are not small observations, and they are the only material that is still unshared.

Start a running note of things you noticed that you have never heard anyone mention. Add to it for a week without deciding what any of it is for. You were never short of material, only short of attention.
