Some habits need funerals, not another motivational speech.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Some habits cannot be reformed by more determination, because determination has already been applied many times and the habit is still there. What actually works is treating it as finished: not managed, not moderated, but ended, with the accompanying acknowledgement that something is genuinely being given up. There is often a real loss involved, since the habit was doing something for you. Naming that loss is part of what makes the ending hold.

Rather than resolving to do better with something, decide whether it is ending and what would replace what it provided. Ask for help if it is a serious one. Endings need a plan more than they need motivation.
