The person you’re becoming may need you to disappoint the person you’ve been.

Becoming someone different means disappointing the expectations you built while being who you were, both other people’s and your own. The old self had commitments, an image, and a set of things it was reliable about, and not all of them survive the change. That disappointment is a real cost rather than a sign of failure. It is usually the price of the whole thing.
Ask what you would have to stop being known for in order to move forward. Sit with that honestly rather than trying to keep both. Some disappointment is simply the shape of change from the outside.
