Your future should not be punished because your past feels familiar.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Familiarity is not a recommendation. Keeping to the known version of your life because it is known means the past is deciding the future purely by having got there first, and nothing about that is a judgement on the merits. There is real comfort in the familiar and it is not evidence of anything. Your future should get evaluated on its own terms.

When you catch yourself preferring something mainly because it is familiar, separate that preference from the actual assessment. Ask what you would choose if both options were equally unknown. Then decide with that in view.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What are you choosing because it is familiar rather than right?
