Write what you’d want to read. Draw what you’d want to hang. Start with your own taste.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Your own taste is the only compass you can trust before anyone is watching. Guessing at what a stranger wants produces something careful and bloodless, because you are aiming at an average person who does not exist. Making what you would actually want in your hands keeps the standard high and personal. It also means the first audience is always satisfied.

Name one thing you wish existed, a song, a comic, a shirt, that nobody has made yet. Write down why you want it. Then make the roughest possible version for yourself and nobody else.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What would you want to read that nobody has written?
