Instant approval often measures recognition rather than quality. Work that sounds like what people already like slides straight in, while an unfamiliar shape needs a second or third pass before it makes sense. A mild first reaction is not a verdict, and a warm one is not proof. The real question is whether anybody is still thinking about it next week.
When you show something new, pay less attention to the first response and more to what people say days later. Give other people’s work the same patience. Go back to one album or film you dismissed and try it again.
