Getting rejected from the art show doesn’t mean your art is bad. It means one panel made one choice.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Rejection from a show is one group of people on one afternoon, working with a limited number of slots. It tells you what they chose, not what your work is worth, and often the deciding factor was a theme or a wall size you never knew about. Treating a no as a measurement gives it authority it does not have. Plenty of good work has been turned down by rooms that later wanted it.

Allow yourself a day of being disappointed, since the disappointment is honest. Then find the next place to send the same piece, and send it.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Did you take one rejection as a verdict on everything?
