Pros plane the board, check it against the light, plane again. Craft is mostly patient correction.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Craft is not one decisive act but a loop of small corrections. Planing, checking and planing again is slow and repetitive, and it is also the only way a surface gets truly flat, because the error stays invisible until you look for it deliberately. Patience here is a technique rather than a personality trait. Much of the difference between competent and good is how many times somebody checked.

Build a checking step into whatever you are making, a point where you stop and hunt for the error on purpose. Do it three times rather than once. Fix what you find instead of noting it and moving on.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

How many rounds of correction do you usually give up at?
