Sewing goes better when you guide the fabric instead of shoving it through. Most things do.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

The machine does the pulling, and your job is direction. Pushing fabric fights the feed, bunches the seam and breaks needles, and almost every beginner does it because effort feels like help. Plenty of work is like that, where the force is already supplied and what is needed from you is steering. Learning the difference between guiding and forcing saves whole categories of trouble.

Next time something resists, ask whether the problem is too little force or the wrong direction. Take your hands off for a second and let the thing move. Then guide it gently and see whether the seam comes out straighter.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Where are you pushing something that would move with guidance?
