A dog learns from what you do every time, not what you say once. People are the same.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Learning follows the pattern, not the announcement. A dog reads what happens consistently, so a rule stated once and broken on Thursday is simply not a rule from their side. People work identically, including you with yourself, because a promise made in a good mood teaches nothing while what you reliably do teaches everything. Consistency is the actual instruction.

Pick one rule you keep restating and look at what you have really done each time it came up. Change the behaviour rather than repeating the announcement. Hold it for two weeks before expecting anybody, dog or person, to believe it.
