Being coachable is a skill: take the note, say thanks, fix it, and don’t argue the replay.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Taking correction well is a learnable skill, and it is rarer than talent. Most people hear a note and start explaining, and the explaining is what makes coaches stop bothering. Take it, thank them, change it, and the next correction arrives faster and more honestly. Arguing the replay wins the argument and loses the coaching.

At your next practice or shift, try receiving one piece of feedback with nothing but thanks and a fix. No context, no defence, no account of what really happened. Notice how differently that person talks to you afterwards.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

When did you argue with a correction instead of applying it?
