Somebody checks the mat for gaps before cheer practice so no one catches a toe. Prevention mostly looks like a chore.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Most safety work looks like tidying. Someone checks the mat seams, someone sweeps, someone coils the cable, and because nothing then happens it looks like nothing happened. The reward for prevention is an absence, which is the hardest thing to feel grateful for. So the chore drifts to whoever cares most, and it is the reason everyone stays upright.

Take one of those chores this week before being assigned it. Walk the mats, check the laces, test the loose step. Then let the lack of drama be the result you were after.
