You can fake confidence for a day. You can’t fake competence for a season.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Confidence can be performed; competence cannot be performed for long. Across a day nobody can tell the difference, which is why bluffing works often enough to stay tempting. Across a season the gap turns visible in results, in the questions you cannot answer, in the moment that needs the thing you skipped. Time is the test that no amount of poise passes.

Name whatever you are currently bluffing. Then spend one unglamorous hour this week actually learning it, the way you would if somebody were about to check. Sooner or later somebody will.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Could you keep up the act for a whole season?
