Most safety rules were written after somebody got hurt. Follow them even when they feel slow.

RESILIENCE
Safety rules are compressed history. Almost every one exists because somebody got hurt doing the obvious, faster thing, and the rule is what is left of that day; the cost was already paid, by a person you will never meet. Following it when it feels slow means accepting a lesson you did not have to learn yourself. That is a bargain.
When a rule at work or practice annoys you, assume there is a story behind it and ask what it is. Follow it meanwhile. If it turns out there is no story, raise it properly rather than quietly ignoring it.
Which slow rule protects you from something you never saw?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
