Eli first misjudged Hannah, then blessed her once she explained. Admitting you read someone wrong is a holy move.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Reading somebody wrong is ordinary, and what you do once you find out is not. Admitting it out loud means giving up the version of events in which you were perceptive, which is why most people quietly adjust their behavior and never actually say anything. Going back to the person and naming the mistake is a rarer and better move. It repairs something that a silent correction leaves damaged.

Think of someone whose situation you judged too quickly, and tell them you had it wrong. Keep it short and skip the part explaining why your assumption was reasonable. Then say the good thing you can now see.
