Martha cooked for Jesus. Mary sat with Him. Both loved Him; only one wasn’t stressed.

Love shows up as service and as attention, and both are real, though they do not cost the same. Work can become a way of being present without ever being still, and the busyness is genuine while also keeping you out of the room. Nobody is criticizing the cooking. The question is whether you ever stop long enough to be with the person you are doing it for.

Find the moment this week when you would normally get up and start tidying, and stay sitting instead. Let something stay undone for an hour. Ask whoever you are with whether they would rather have the help or the company.
