Pride would rather have a hard task than a plain one. A simple instruction insults you, because if that is all it takes then you were never the complicated case you believed yourself to be. So people skip the easy obedience and go looking for a more impressive version of the same problem. Drink some water, go to bed earlier, apologise, hand the homework in, say the plain thing out loud.

What is the obvious small step you have been dismissing as too obvious to matter. Do that one this week, before you look for anything cleverer.
