Boaz told his workers to leave extra grain for Ruth on purpose. Generosity can be quiet and intentional.
GRATITUDE
GRATITUDE
Generosity gets imagined as a dramatic moment and is mostly a decision made in advance. Leaving extra grain in the field means someone thought ahead about a person who would come later and arranged for her to find enough without having to ask for it. That is kinder than a gift handed over in public. It protects the dignity of the person receiving it.
Set something aside for somebody this week before they have to ask. Leave the last slice, cover the small amount, save them the seat. Do it quietly enough that they are not put in the position of thanking you.
Could you leave something behind on purpose for someone else?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
