Your parents’ faith can introduce you to God. It can’t have the relationship for you.

Inherited belief can get you as far as the door and no further. Your parents can give you the language, the habits, the building and the assumptions, and all of that is a genuine gift. None of it can do the actual relating on your behalf, any more than somebody can be your friend for you. At some point the thing has to become first-hand or it stays borrowed.
