Generosity isn’t for rich people. Some of the most generous people you’ll meet have the least.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Generosity is a habit, not an income bracket. People with very little are often conspicuously open-handed, partly because they know exactly what being short feels like, and plenty of people with plenty are careful to the point of meanness. Waiting until you can afford it means waiting for a state of mind that more money does not produce. The practice has to start at the amount you currently have.

Give something away this week at the scale you actually live at. Five dollars, a lift, half your lunch, an hour. Then do it again next week.
