Every visible performance sits on top of work that only becomes noticeable when it is skipped. Taped cables are invisible until somebody trips, at which point they are all anyone remembers. The person doing that job early, before the room fills, is holding up the whole evening. Competence at the unglamorous layer is what lets the rest of it happen.

Find the job in your group that nobody has claimed and claim it quietly. Arrive early for it rather than announcing it. Then keep doing it after the week when people noticed.
