GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Both halves have to be true at once, or neither helps. Being forgiven does not make the shouting retroactively fine, and knowing it was ugly does not mean you are stuck with it. What closes the gap is the walk back into the kitchen. That walk is short and feels enormous, which is why people put it off for days.

Go in tonight and say the plain version, without first explaining what she did. Name the thing you said and that you should not have said it. Then stay in the room for a minute instead of leaving straight away.
