Talk to God before you check your phone. Let the first voice in your day be a kind one.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Whatever reaches you first sets the terms for the morning. Open the phone and you are immediately inside other people’s opinions, other people’s lives, and a list of things that want something from you. Two minutes before that belongs to you, and it is the only part of the day nobody has booked. The order matters more than the length.

Leave the phone face down and give the first two minutes to something quiet. Say what you hope for, or just be awake without input. Then pick it up, and notice that you arrived at it rather than being started by it.
