Moses’ first act in Midian was defending some shepherd girls at a well. Character shows up before the calling does.

Long before anything significant happens, the story has him stepping in for strangers at a well because they were being pushed around. There was no audience and no larger plan in view. What he became later was already visible in that: how you behave when nothing is at stake comes first. Character is not issued along with the role.
Watch what you do this week when there is nothing in it for you. Somebody talked over, somebody shoved out of a queue, somebody left off an invitation. The small interventions are the rehearsal, whether or not anything larger arrives.
When did you stick up for a stranger with nothing to gain?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
