Jesus knew He was about to raise Lazarus and He still wept with the family. Your tears aren’t a lack of faith.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Knowing how something ends does not spare you the part in the middle. In the story the outcome was not in doubt and the crying happened anyway, before anything was fixed. Grief is not a miscalculation about the future. It is the appropriate response to loss, and certainty about the long run does not cancel what today costs.

If you are grieving, you do not have to hold anything together for anyone’s benefit. Crying is not evidence against what you believe or what you hope. And if somebody beside you is grieving, you can weep with them instead of explaining anything.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Have you ever apologized for crying when it was entirely fitting?
