Leftovers in the fridge are a past version of someone looking out for a future you.

Leftovers are a message sent forwards in time. Somebody cooked more than was needed, found a container and did it on the assumption that a future person would be hungry and short of time. Much of the care in a household works that way, arranged in advance by someone who will not be present when it gets used. You collect it without ever seeing it sent.
Find out this week who does the cooking and the planning in your house, then take on one piece of it. Make extra on purpose. Leaving something in the fridge for whoever comes in late is a complete sentence.
