Some of what your parents gave up for you, you’ll never hear about. That’s sort of the point.

Real sacrifice does not get invoiced. The jobs taken, the things not replaced, the years spent in a town somebody did not love: most of that was decided quietly and never mentioned, because mentioning it would have handed you a debt. Keeping it unspoken was part of the gift.

You do not need to go digging or start apologising for things you had no say in. Ask them instead what they wanted at your age, and listen longer than feels normal. You will learn more from that answer than from any accounting.
