Outgrowing friends can happen in one summer. Go easy on the people who didn’t have the same summer you did.

People change at wildly different rates, and a summer that rearranged you was an ordinary three months for everybody else. You came back with new reference points and found the same jokes, the same plans, the same conversation waiting, and the mismatch can read as them having let you down. They did not. They simply had a normal summer while you had a formative one.
So resist the urge to grade them against the new you. Keep turning up without demanding they catch up, and see what the autumn does. Some of them have a summer like yours next year.
Who changed less than you did over one long summer?
