The action looks identical from outside. Both involve walking away from something, both disappoint somebody, both get called quitting by whoever did not want you to go. The difference sits entirely in whether there is anything named on the other side. One leaves a gap; the other swaps one commitment for a specific commitment you want more.
Before you leave, write down what you are walking toward in one plain sentence, with a name and a date in it. Then say the sentence when people ask.
Are you walking away from something or toward something better?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
