Changing your reputation takes longer than changing yourself. People need time to catch up to the new you.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Reputation lags behind the person. You can do the work, change the behaviour and genuinely become someone different, and for a long time people will still be responding to the file they opened two years ago. The gap is not unfairness. It is just the delay between evidence and belief.

The only thing that closes it is more of the same, repeated where people can see it, without commentary. Resist the urge to point out that you have changed, since that mostly resets the clock. Give it a year and let the behaviour do the arguing.
