Every generation receives something unfinished.

No generation hands over a finished situation. There is always an unresolved conflict, an unpaid debt, a wound nobody addressed, a pattern still running. You did not create most of what you were handed, and you also cannot hand it on untouched without passing along the cost. That is the awkward position everyone inherits.

Rather than trying to fix all of it, pick the one thing you have the most power over and work on that. Whatever you resolve does not have to be resolved again by anyone after you. That is a real contribution even if nobody names it.
