Change jobs because you’re growing, not only because you’re bored. Boredom tends to pack itself in your bag.

Boredom is a feeling about you more often than about the job. It travels, which is why leaving for no reason beyond restlessness tends to deliver the same flatness in a new building about five weeks in. A move that works is usually a move towards something specific: a skill, a wage, a person you want to learn from.

Before you hand in notice anywhere, write the sentence that says what you are going towards. If it only says what you are leaving, try changing something inside the job first. Ask for a different shift, a different task, or more of the part you like.
