In judo, the first thing many beginners drill is how to hit the mat safely. Before you chase winning, practice landing.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

The first thing taught in a throwing sport is how to be thrown. You learn to hit the mat without hurting yourself before you learn anything about winning, because falling is guaranteed and surviving it is what lets you keep training. Skill in the thing itself comes later and depends on that.

Look at whatever you are starting and ask what the fall looks like. The bad grade, the lost job, the rejection, and what you would do in the week after. Knowing you can land makes you much braver about going for it.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Have you practiced how to fall at the thing you want?
