You don’t always need a new you. Sometimes you need to take the old one in at the waist.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

The urge to start over is usually bigger than the problem requires. A whole new personality, a new town, a new everything is attractive precisely because it postpones the smaller and harder job, which is adjusting what you already have. Most lives need altering rather than replacing: the same person, the same interests, one or two things taken in.

Before you overhaul anything, name the two adjustments that would make the current version work. An earlier bedtime, one subject dropped, one conversation had. Try those first and see how much of the restlessness they absorb.
