When someone calls you out and they’re right, the strongest reply is two words: “Fair point.”
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Most of the energy in an argument goes into defending a position you already suspect is shaky. Agreeing quickly ends that expensive performance and leaves your dignity intact, which is the opposite of what people expect. It also signals that you can hear something true without falling apart.
Next time somebody is right about you, try agreeing in the first sentence rather than the fifth. No explanation, no softening clause. Then change the thing, because the words only hold up if something follows them.
When were you right to concede and argued instead?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
