Some inherited beliefs expire even when affection for the people who taught them remains.

You can outgrow a belief without outgrowing the person who gave it to you. Ideas about work, about who is trustworthy, about what a life should look like, were formed in conditions that no longer exist, and holding them now would not serve you or them. Letting a belief expire is not a judgment on the people who lived by it. They were answering their own question.
When you notice a belief no longer fits, separate the idea from the person clearly in your own mind. Keep the affection, retire the rule. Saying it that way makes the change feel less like a break.
