Floating is mostly learning to stop fighting. A lot of hard things work that way.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Water holds you up until you start fighting it. The instinct to thrash is strong and completely counterproductive, which makes floating a skill of removal rather than effort: fewer movements, slower breathing, less grip. Some problems get smaller the moment you stop wrestling with them.

Notice one thing this week that you are working hard at with poor results, an argument, a draft, a night of bad sleep. Try doing distinctly less with it for a day. Not giving up, just loosening the grip and seeing what happens.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Could something hold you up if you stopped fighting it?
