A family can love you and still misunderstand what is best for you.

Care and accuracy are different capacities. People who love you deeply can be badly wrong about what you need, because they are working from their own fears, their own era, and the version of you they knew best. The love in the advice is real even when the advice is not. Confusing the two makes it hard to decline anything.

When family guidance does not fit, thank them for the care and keep your own decision. You do not have to prove they are wrong in order to do something else. Separating the intention from the content makes the conversation shorter and kinder.
